My interest started in the early eighties when home computers came to the small town i lived.
At that time we had an Atari VCS (video console) and i heard
that i could write my own games with a home computer. So i was very interested.
- My first computer was a Atari 600XL which i bought in fall 1983.
I started writing and playing adventure games.
I had to write my own games, because i did not know anyone with an Atari,
all the people i knew had a Commodore 64.
At that time it was common that magazines contained the source code of programs (mainly written in Basic and Assembler) and i typed the code into
my computer and this way i learned to program in Basic and
Assembly language.
- In school we programmed an Apple II with USCD Pascal.
- In 1985 i upgraded to an Atari 130XL because it had more memory and my old one did not work properly any more.
- In spring 1987 i bought an Atari 1040ST. At that time this was an incredible machine.
In school we used PC clones with Turbo Pascal.
- In autumn 1991 i bought a PC clone with a 386SX processor and i used DR DOS as the operating system.
- In spring 1993 i bought a PC clone with a 66 MHz 486 processor with 8 MB main memory.
On this machine i used OS/2 (which was a reliable and very modern operating system at that time)
and i installed my first version of Linux in July 1993 (some 0.99 version).
Since then i have only used Linux on my home PCs.
In 1996 i upgraded to 20 MB of main memory, so that i could use Emacs,
X11 and the Glasgow Haskell Compiler.
- In spring 2001 i bought a PC clone with a 800 MHz Pentium III processor and 1 GB of main memory.
- In winter 2005/06 i bought a PC clone with a Athlon 2 Ghz processor and 2 GB of main memory.
- In summer 2007 i bought a MacBook Pro laptop with 15-inch monitor and 2.2 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo processor.
